Google's Matt Cutts On SEO Myths: Ads Correlate To Organic Results & More...

In a recent video from Google Head of Search Spam, Matt Cutts, Matt talks about the biggest SEO myths he sees today.

By far, the biggest myth, according to Cutts, is how people think Google makes changes to their search results with the only intent of making more money. Matt said buying or not buying ads has no positive or negative impact on your rankings. In addition, Google does not make changes to their organic algorithms based on encouraging people to buy ads. All of this, according to Matt Cutts, is a big SEO myth.

Google's research suggests that consumers who conduct local searches are further down the purchase funnel. Within a day of a local search, 34% of consumers who sought local information on their computer or tablet made their way to a store, and of those who used a smartphone, the number is even higher at 50%.

AdWords Cost Per Click Rises 26% Between 2012 and 2014

Increases in CPC were most dramatic in the Legal and Automotive categories, where advertisers paid an average of 50% and 45% more per AdWords click, respectively, than they did two years ago.

The category with the lowest increase in CPCs is also the largest in terms of Paid Search spend, Shopping & Classifieds, which primarily includes retailers. Between Q1 2012 and Q1 2014, the average CPC for Shopping & Classifieds advertisers rose just 6%, from $0.72 to $0.77. The only other category with a single digit increase in CPCs was Financial, which rose 9%.

Every other industry category studied experienced double digit increases in CPCs, including Education (31%), Health (30%), Home & Garden (22%), Telecommunications (26%) and Travel (15%).

Google I/O 2014: Top 5 Moments Google's Conference Unveils Android L, Smartwatches And Android Tv

The Google IO conference has On/Off in its name, but it was "on" when the Android-maker dissed Apple at the same time it revealed an updated version of its mobile operating system.

Yes, this year's convention was more subdued. There were no Google Glass skydiving stunts and some products like the Moto 360 watch are still veiled in darkness.

That won't matter to Android's core audience. While some companies struggle to expand into new product categories, Google is moving watches, televisions, gaming set-top boxes and even cars.

Study: 56% Of Viewers Skip Online Video Ads & 46% Say Any Ad Over 15-Seconds Is Too Long

The study surveyed 2,000 random consumers, age 18 and older, who claimed to own a television, smartphone and personal computer or laptop.

At 64 percent, Adroit Digital said 18 to 24 year olds are most likely to skip online video content, while respondents age 35 to 44 year olds are least likely to skip an online video ad. Of all the respondents, 56 percent said they skip online video ads most of the time.
